President Museveni has extended reporting dates for all universities and tertiary institutions in a televised address from State House, Nakasero.
The Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni had initially set May 2nd as the reporting date for all universities but added that it was subject to change “if the situation did not normalize.”
Just minutes ago, President Museveni reigned in over the decision after he extended the national lockdown to 21 more days. The President said that the lockdown will in essence end on May 5th, indirectly crashing all the dates that were set by the Minister of Education.
“I would like to appeal to Ugandans to observe the prohibitions already announced, stay at home except for those carrying cargo. Stop going into the trading centers to loiter.” Museveni said in his address.
“Let’s not be impatient. Let’s wait for another 21 days and try to see. Because if somebody got the virus and he is the asymptomatic type, he is circulating in the village. The whole family can not be asymptomatic.” He further said.
It is not yet clear when the universities and other schools will resume education.
