As most universities accept all religions to worship in their own means, the Hive has just got to know about Kabale University administration which on Sunday last week banned students from attending to prayers within the institution.
The university Catholic students fraternity went ahead to carry out a mass within a tent inside the university. This didn’t last that long however, as the police intervened and disorganized their efforts. The police warned Rev. Fr. Young Buregyeya, who had led the mass and was the university chaplain, not to dare lead another mass within the institution and that if he did he was to be deemed to have gone against the university rules.
The university gave them provisions of Rushoroza Cathedral, Christ the King Catholic Church, or any other church for prayers but not within the institution. They further ordered everyone who wanted to worship to go out to the rightful places but not try to turn the university into a church or mosque.
The admin is yet to issued the real reasons as to why they banned students from worshiping within the institution. Talking to George William Okello, the police officer who led the command on that day, the officer told the Campus Bee that he was trying to implement a decision that was made by the university administration.
By press time, the students had not reached a decision about what they’re going to do next but they have gone ahead to inform the media that they will not leave their worshiping places because the university constitution provides them with the right of worship.
