Yesterday 20th April 2020, Kabale University led by their Vice Chancellor Professor Joy Kwesiga donated 72 million Uganda shillings to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital to aid in the renovation of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
It should be recalled that a few weeks ago, the Parliamentary Health Committee visited the hospital and it was concerned about the worrying condition of its ICU. This has also come in the time when the hospital had established an Isolation Centre for COVID-19 suspects which also needs facilitation.
Prof Kwesiga said that the University was concerned about the hospital’s struggle in the fight against COVID-19 and the situation of ICU which is one of the crucial areas at the hospital.
“These funds will be used to renovate the floor, verandah, wall painting among others. We have also deployed a team of 30 medical staff from the department of medicine to assist the district taskforce in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe after this, the hospital will be ready to handle any COVID-19 case,’’ Prof Kwesiga said.
Mr. Alfred Besigensi, the acting Kabale District Health Officer thanked Kabale University because the district was stuck in its attempts to renovate the ICU due to lack of funds.
