The Vice Chancellor of Kabale University, Prof. Joy Constance Kwesiga, has been honored by Action for Development (ACFODE) for her outstanding contributions to gender equality, leadership, and community empowerment.
The recognition was announced on Sunday by Dr. Mesharch W. Katusiimeh, a senior academic at Kabale University, who congratulated Prof. Kwesiga in a public statement celebrating her “truly deserved” achievement.
“Congratulations our VC @jckwesiga @kabuniversity for the Action for Development (ACFODE) award. This recognition is truly deserved. We celebrate you and ACFODE’s powerful inter-generational impact!” Dr. Katusiimeh posted, extending appreciation to national women leaders including Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga and Hon. Annette Kezaabu.

Her work with ACFODE and other civil society organizations has positioned her as one of the country’s most respected voices on gender equity and social transformation.
The ACFODE award recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to promoting women’s rights, strengthening institutions, and fostering leadership across generations. Prof. Kwesiga’s legacy includes extensive academic research, policy influence, and empowerment initiatives targeting girls and women in rural and urban communities.
The award has sparked widespread commendation within academic and political circles. Leaders praised Prof. Kwesiga for her integrity, resilience, and unwavering commitment to social justice.
Kabale University staff also noted that the honor highlights the institution’s growing role in national development, particularly in expanding higher education opportunities in southwestern Uganda.
For many Ugandans, Prof. Kwesiga’s recognition by ACFODE is not just a personal achievement, but a celebration of decades of progress in gender advocacy. Her work continues to influence policy, empower young women, and strengthen institutions dedicated to equality.
Kabale University has yet to issue a formal statement, but celebrations continue across social media as colleagues, students, and national leaders honor one of Uganda’s most distinguished educators and gender champions.
