Kabale University has bowed to pressure and dropped the increment of surcharges following protests from students.
Students at Kabale University boycotted lectures on Tuesday in protest after the university increased surcharges from UGX 30,000 to UGx80,000.
The Bee has learnt that Kabale University management held a meeting on Tuesday and resolved to drop the increment.
Prof. Joy Constance Kwesiga, the institution’s Vice Chancellor informed the guild president of management’s decision in her letter dated October 24th.
Kwesiga said it is important that every student registers in order to allow management plan and track the students progress.
“For each semester, every student must register to allow for planning and student tracking. The recommendation is to be presented to the University Council for approval in its next scheduled meeting,“ she said.
However, Godfrey Sempungu, the University’s Senior Branding and Communications Officer refuted reports that students had boycotted classes.
