Jimmy Kachabali was among the 12,000 students that graduated this week at the Makerere 74th graduation ceremony. Kachabali proudly donned his graduation cap and gown as he received his Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University.
Kachabali’s journey at Makerere has been one of dedication and perseverance, navigating through the challenges of academic rigor to achieve this significant milestone.
Kachabali, who attempted to run for guikd Presidency in 2020 says his originated from his grandfather, Kachabali Wilson who was also a Mitchell Hall resident and culture minister back in 1945.
Kachabali’s grandfather who is said to be a ladies man back in the days reportedly sampled several babes from Makerere Halls of residence in a bid to come up with a hall that could form a joint solidarity with Mitchell.

After tasting many of them (apparently he didn’t enter), the Complex Hall babes turned out to be the best after which he re-named the hall “wetland”. The formerly called Kacha John Wilson was later named Kachabali Wilson by his Mitchell Hall colleagues after his act.
“The meaning of my name, first of all it’s my late grandfather’s name, obviously it’s so funny and I will try to explain it the way I know. I was named Kachabali many years ago, I think its my birth name but when I came to Makerere University I really did not know what it means.” Kachabali said.
“It’s from Michell Hall that my grandfather was given that name way back in 1945 and I’m really proud to take on his name because it is doing me wonders.” Kachabali added.
Mitchell Hall and Makerere Law School students describe Kachabali as a vibrant and serious person who they trust to become a great leader at the Ivory Tower in future. He is currently aspiring to become the GRC of Mitchell Hall.
Congratulations Kachabali!
