Unlike its counterpart in MUBS, Akamwesi Wandegeya has under-gone a series of name changes from Akamwesi, to The Ark and now Aryan!
According to one of the workers whose names are withheld, the hostel’s original owner Akamwesi, also owner of Akamwesi MUBS sold it to a new owner who named it The Ark. He has also sold it off thus its new name, Aryan. But the question is why?
While Akamwesi Wandegeya is changing names. Akamwesi MUBS is still owned by one guy-well, at least that’s what its name is telling us.
Could it be that this prestigious A class hostel with free gym services, Internet, DStv, shuttles and whose residents pay up to 1.6 millions a semester is not making enough profits? Or is it the flooding of the downer rooms that has made it hard to manage? Perhaps it’s the series of scandals that have been associated with the hostel?-First there was Abel Atuhairwe, a 22-year-old guy residing in the hostel that was arrested for masquerading as a female. Then there was this Kenyan of Somali descent that was picked from the hostel as a suspected Al-Shabaab terrorist. Not forgetting Desire Mirembe also its resident was murdered in Jinja last year.
Well, we might never know but one thing is for sure, the “aa” sound
has been sustained in its names. They literally rhyme! “Akamwesi, Ark, Aryan!”
