There was tension in Uganda Christian University [UCU] on Saturday morning as tight security at the university from the Uganda Police anti-riot and counter-terrorism among others carrying with them a number of batons, guns and teargas canisters were seen making rounds within the university.
Patrol cars, and the infamous police pick-ups packed to the brim were seen collecting police from all over the nation into the university to participate in the year’s police marathon day.
When informed that the Police Chief would be the guest of honour at the event, sympathisers and supporters of the police appeared clad in white Crime Preventer t-shirts. The event drew a number of Mukono residents including some kifeesi disguised as crime preventers that came to participate at the event.
The general arrived at 9am and kept on ranting “we shall find the kifeesi” the kifeesi must go.” The run commenced and the 10-kilometer race around Mukono was covered in about an hour.
Afande Ojobila and the wordy Gravity Omutujju rapped through his popular songs to the excitement of the police that expressed themselves with taekwondo drills.
The General eulogized the police and crime preventers at the university and reiterated his threat to the kifeesi. He encouraged the public to engage in community policing and to join the crime preventers team. He boasted of the one million crime preventers all over the country.
UCU students admired the crime preventers title and picked interest in joining the team. Some UCU students were seen registering their names to be part of the national crime preventers team.
A number of certificates were issued to many participants at the event including to the fastest runner, the General.
