President Uhuru Kenyatta during a press statement at the Harambee House in Kenya announced that all schools would be closed effective 16th-18th March following the recent confirmed cases of Covid-19 which have since then risen from the earlier mentioned one case by two totaling to a new count of three. Something, the government wasn’t willing to let be a by-gone but rather, address from the provenance.
Kenya has also halted the halted the entry of foreigners from countries that have confirmed coronavirus cases with exception of Kenyan citizens and any other foreigners with valid residence permits provided they proceed on self-quarantine or to a government designated quarantine facility. All this is in a bid to reduce contagion within the East African country.
The directive takes effect in 48 hours, lasting 30 days or until further notice, Kenyatta said during the press briefing. He also directed that the school administration for students and pupils in boarding institutions have them sent back at their respective homes by Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
President Kenyatta also directed University and tertiary institutions in the country to halt the ongoing learning by Friday, March 20, 2020. He ordered for government offices, businesses, and companies to allow employees to work from home, with an exception of people working in critical sectors. President Kenyatta asked members of the public to use cashless transactions.
“Ordinarily, flu spreads fast through Children in School and other social places. It’s my considered opinion that schools should be closed as from tomorrow until the relevant authorities prepare well for better ways of containing the COVID-19 virus in Kenya,” Kenyatta argued.
