Police have arrested a key suspect in the murder of Pamela Tumwebaze, the Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU), a killing that stunned the university community and sparked nationwide grief.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala confirmed that a joint security task team had apprehended one of the prime suspects, identified as Taewaiko Dak Hussein.
“The joint security task team investigating the murder of Tumwebaze Pamela, the Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University, has successfully arrested one of the key suspects,” Kawala said.
According to police, the suspect was arrested on February 14, 2026, at a hideout in Budaka District. He was allegedly found in possession of property belonging to the deceased.
“The suspect was found with the deceased’s property, a critical piece of evidence linking him to the murder,” Kawala added.
Preliminary investigations further indicate that the suspect had previously worked as a house help to the slain dean, a revelation that has deepened shock over the circumstances surrounding the crime.
Investigations remain ongoing, with police indicating that more updates will be provided as inquiries progress and efforts continue to identify any additional suspects connected to the case.
Campus Still in Mourning
Tumwebaze died following a violent attack at her home earlier this week, an incident that sent waves of grief across the UCU community and beyond.
Students, clergy, alumni, and colleagues have described her as a compassionate mentor and spiritual guide who dedicated herself to nurturing young people. University leaders noted that she often handled sensitive student matters, offering counsel and support with patience and empathy.
Police have urged the public to remain calm and allow investigators to complete their work as they pursue all leads in the case.
The arrest marks a significant development in the high-profile investigation, as the nation continues to mourn the loss of a respected education leader.
