Kibet Emmanuel, a recent graduate from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), has shared a remarkable journey from childhood poverty to the fulfillment of his dream to become a doctor.

In a heartfelt post that has resonated with many, Kibet shares a glimpse into his past, recalling a time when shoes were a luxury and a single set of clothes was a constant companion. Accompanied by a photo of his younger self, he reflects, “On the left is me in 2003, when I knew nothing about school, no shoes, with only one pair of clothes that was only replaced when it’s beyond repair. How I survived the pathogens that we study in medical school is what astonishes me!”

But amidst the challenges and uncertainties of his early years, Kibet found strength in the unwavering support of his single mother. In a poignant tribute, he writes, “I know she doesn’t see this post, but the woman in the middle deserves the world. I stood on her shoulders all along. God bless her for me!”

Kibet’s story is not just one of personal triumph—it is a testament to the power of education and the sacrifices made by parents to secure a better future for their children. His hard work and determination have culminated in the achievement of a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Bachelor’s of Surgery from MUST.

This milestone is particularly significant given the context of MUST’s 30th Graduation Ceremony, where a total of 1,470 graduands were honored. Among these achievers, 886 were males and 584 were females, representing a diverse range of talents and ambitions.

A statistical breakdown of the graduating class reveals the depth of accomplishment: 1,264 graduates received undergraduate degrees, while 206 earned master’s degrees, and 10 were awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhDs). Kibet’s journey stands as a shining example among these graduates, a testament to the transformative power of education and the resilience of the human spirit.
