Kyambogo University Guild President Tundulu Jonathan who had been spotted calling on students to participate in a strike dubbed the Bloody Week intended for today 30th September is nursing losses as the strike flopped, Campus Bee has learnt.
This move was announced on Thursday 26th September during the General Assembly at the Students’ Centre and re-emphasized on Friday 27th September during the Freshers’ Ball. According to the Guild President, he wishes to use it as a violent means in demanding for students’ rights since the non-peaceful mechanisms have been ignored by the Senate.
Issues at hand include the 12 Weeks Policy, the 6 Weeks Policy, Delay in releasing results for Semester 2 Academic Year 2018/2019, inadequacy of lecture rooms and poor sanitation around Campus. The Guild President in his statement has called on students to stand up for what they deserve with a popular slogan, “We want our rights back.”
However, GRCs have questioned this move by the Guild President since it encourages use of rigorous means, something that proved hazardous to some students in the previous strike against the 12 Weeks policy.
“We shall not accept students to lose any more hands in the name of demanding for rights. I believe the situation at hand will be sorted without use of rigorous means which will result into various injuries to students like we have previously witnessed. We therefore encourage students to remain peaceful and attend to normal University Programmes,” one of the GRCs commented on the Guild President’s initiative.
It should be noted that Tundulu Jonathan has been summoned by Police over this move with various allegations, one of them being inciting violence among the students
