King Ceasor University (KCU) has officially joined Uganda’s elite league of chartered universities, a historic milestone marking its full legal recognition to offer academic programs from undergraduate to professorship level.
The prestigious charter, signed by H.E President Yoweri Museveni on July 3, 2025, was formally presented to university officials by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) during a celebratory ceremony at KCU’s Bunga campus in Kampala.
The charter affirms KCU’s status as a fully autonomous institution of higher learning with legal authority to establish its governance structures and confer degrees recognized both locally and internationally.
Founded by H.E King Ceasor T.G, the Honorary Consul of Vietnam to Uganda and the university’s proprietor and founding chancellor, KCU has grown into a hub for academic excellence and innovation.
“This charter means service to humanity,” said King Ceasor T.G. “It opens our doors to students from around the world and ensures our graduates are eligible for postgraduate studies globally.”
KCU was first conceptualized in 2005, received a provisional license in 2011, and officially rebranded as King Ceasor University in 2020, after operating under the names Montessori University (2009) and St. Augustine International University (2010–2019).
Excellence in Medical and Multidisciplinary Training
KCU is widely recognized as the first private medical school in Kampala, with a strong emphasis on training doctors, nurses, engineers, entrepreneurs, cybersecurity experts, and legal professionals.
The university’s unique medical training model places students across multiple specialized hospitals, ensuring holistic exposure to both community health and expert mentorship.
“My goal was to train health professionals who serve humanity,” King Ceasor T.G. affirmed.
With a student body that spans the globe—from the USA, UK, Germany, and China, to countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East—KCU has cemented its position as an international academic destination.
Leadership Speaks
Dr. Charity Basaza Mulenga, KCU Vice Chancellor, received the charter on behalf of the university and described the moment as both humbling and aspirational.
“This charter is an honor—but also a responsibility,” Dr. Basaza said. “It calls us to elevate our academic offerings, governance systems, and innovation in a rapidly evolving global environment.”
Steven Okoth, NCHE’s legal officer, handed over the official charter document during the event, commending KCU’s dedication to academic excellence.
The Road Ahead
Earlier this year, on May 5, 2025, KCU held its graduation ceremony for over 300 students. During the ceremony, King Ceasor T.G. announced the rollout of a mandatory two-month technology certificate course for all new students—designed to equip them for emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, quantum computing, gene editing, and more.
KCU’s long-term vision remains clear: to be a center of innovation and socio-economic transformation, guided by research, forward-thinking education, and global inclusivity.
With this charter, King Ceasor University now joins Uganda’s circle of chartered institutions, including Makerere University, Gulu University, Busitema University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, and Kabale University.
This milestone signals a new chapter in KCU’s mission to deliver world-class education and empower the next generation of global leaders.
