Following two big bomb explosions that rocked Uganda’s capital, Kampala on Tuesday, 16th November 2021, Kampala International University – KIU has resolved to ban students from accessing campus premises with bags.
According to a statement issued by the university Dean of Students’ office, bags are a serious security threat to both students and non-students. The statement further indicates that with effect from today Wednesday, 17th November, the university security team will not allow bags inside campus premises.
‘KIU, like any other public Places is accessed by all sorts of people from different places and with different motives. Considering the current terrorism threats in the country our security is making all efforts possible to protect everyone within and outside the University. “ The statement reads in part.
“Bags have been declared a serious security threat to both students and .non-students during this harsh period. Therefore, this is to inform all the students that with effect from Wednesday 17″ November — 2021 security will not allow bags to enter KIU gates until further notice.” The statement adds.
However, the university has allowed students to enter with only light transparent clear bags for books as well as laptop bags with only laptops inside.
The communication has arrived after Kyambogo and MUBS moved to ban bags in university premises following multiple bomb explosions in the city.
