Kampala International University is well-known for its affinity of international students at the Main Campus in Kasanga; and longevity when it comes to medical studies — through their Western Uganda Campus in Ishaka. On 17th of this month, July 2017, good tidings were received at the institution, on how their Dar-es-Salaam campus had been handed a chatter; under the name: Kampala International University, Tanzania.
According to the acting Vice Chancellor, Dr. Annet Kezaabu Kasimbazi, KIU DCC Tanzania is now chattered to be a fully fledged university.
“Before that date, we had four campuses including the Main Campus, Western Campus in Ishaka, Dream Line Campus in Kenya and Dar-es-Salaam Campus. We are in the process of completing a grand campus in Kitengera, Kenya. Equipping Ishaka labs, and constructing more for natural sciences, building the biggest engineering lab in Uganda, and handing the School of Pharmacy its own campus, are developments in queue. A students hostel of 800 capacity is also being built,” Dr Kezaabu revealed.
Prof. George Nasinyama, The Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Research and Innovation, also made remarks; “The chatter means the Tanzania campus is now like an independent university. It can offer its own degrees, and develop its own programs too,” before adding; “KIU is the only university with a fully fledged school of pharmacy – others just run them as units.
We are venturing into a new Fedge Research; which involves developing viruses that kill bacteria infections. Fedges treat wounds and have no synthetic chemicals to cause side effects. The university has its own hospital where these studies are conducted and important to note: the remedy is approved in FDA so we are not just experimenting.”
Dr. Janice Busingye, the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration gave information about the intakes. “The August intake is ongoing till September 21st. Apply at campus or online or by a call and you will be served. We aim at training entrepreneurs, so students of an NGO called Start Up Africa; from Oxford, Havard, and German Universities have linked up with our students to develop entrepreneurial skills. Rewards are included.”
To anyone in Uganda hoping to study from KIU Tanzania, you can get help from the main campus in Kansanga on all that’s required. Bravo Kampala International University for ‘Exploring The Heights.’
