Drama has hit the Kampala International University (KIU) School of Law after one of its students, Herbert Arinaitwe, was charged with unlawfully recording a High Court judge without consent.
According to court documents, the incident allegedly happened on October 10, 2025, at the High Court in Kampala, where Arinaitwe is said to have secretly recorded Justice Andrew Khauka during court proceedings.
The law student appeared before court earlier this week and was charged with unauthorized recording, an offence that has raised eyebrows in legal circles.
He was later granted non-cash bail of Shs 1 million, pending further investigations.
Social media users were quick to point out the irony of a law student — who should know better — landing in legal trouble for a privacy breach inside a courtroom.
If convicted, Arinaitwe could face serious disciplinary action from both the university and the law council, sources hinted.
Meanwhile, KIU students have been left buzzing over the incident, with many calling it a “hard lesson” in respecting courtroom ethics.
