Kampala International University (KIU) Medicine in Surgery Master’s student has succumbed to Ebola.
According to Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, the Minister of Health in Uganda, the deceased was identified as Dr. Mohammed Ali, a 37 year old Tanzanian national.
“I regret to announce that we have lost our first doctor, Mr. Mohammed Ali, a Tanzanian national, 37 year old male today at 3:15am,” she tweeted.
According to her, Dr. Ali tested positive of Ebola on September 26, 2022 and died while receiving treatment at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital in the isolation facility.
The Ministry’s report today confirmed that six health workers have contracted Ebola, out of which, one is dead.
The three others have been in a critical condition.
All the six were transferred from Mubende to Fort Portal to receive advancedbmedical care.
The current statistics from the Ministry of health state that there are 35 cumulative confirmed cases, 427 contacts listed for follow up, 16 active cases on admission, seven cumulative death and one new death case.
Dr. Mohammed Ali was a member of Surgeons of Uganda.
According to the World Health Organization, the first Ebola outbreak in Uganda since 2012 was caused by a Sudan virus.
On September 20, 2022, the health authorities in Uganda declared an outbreak of Ebola disease caused by Sudan virus (SUDV), after a case was confirmed in a village of Madudu sub-county in Mubende district.
