KIU, Main Campus – A detailed circular with guidelines of the university’s reopening procedure released on Wednesday 10th February by the University Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mohammad Mpezamihigo indicates that the 23rd graduation ceremony will be held on 24th April 2021.

‘’This is to announce that the 23rd Graduation Ceremony for students who will have fulfilled all requirements (financial, academic etc.), for their respective academic programs, is expected to be held on Saturday 24th, April 2021,” the report reads.

The Vice Chancellor also calls upon all students who intend to graduate in April to ensure that they clear online using the appropriate tools as detailed on the University Website. Online graduation clearance commenced on the Monday, 1st February 2021 and ends on Friday, 16th April 2021.

His communication also contains a detailed academic schedule for finalists and continuing students with maximum compliance with the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE)’s recommendation for the staggered reopening of Universities.

The circular reads that, ‘’Given the fact that KIU was accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to continue teaching and learning via the Open Distance and eLearning (ODeL), blended with limited face-to-face sessions, the University has finalized the arrangements to stagger students (studying at different time periods) according to a criterion that will ensure no risk of the violation of the MOH SOPs and other University guidelines.’’

It also indicates that the Main Campus schedule is separately presented from that of the KIU Western Campus. Students and staff have been cautioned from violating the guidelines and that anyone who breaches them will be subjected to the University administrative procedures, which may lead to serious consequences of a disciplinary nature and notification of government authorities.

The Vice Chancellor also used the opportunity to express the university administrations gratitude towards the students, parents and staff for being patient in challenging times.

‘’The University Management appreciates the patience of everyone in these very difficult, stressful and challenging times that have been largely exacerbated by the COVID-19 Pandemic. I therefore call upon each one of you to please cooperate with University officials when guided or approached, in enforcing compliance.’’
