Kampala International University (KIU) has today Tuesday, November 23 started a mass Covid-19 vaccination exercise in partnership with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and the Ministry of Health.
The three-day exercise kicked off today morning from 8:00am till 4:30pm, at the KIU Main Campus in Kansanga, in reference to the university statement. The exercise is scheduled to run for 3 days.
“We invite students, staff and the entire neighborhood community to take advantage of this 3-day exercise,” read the statement in part.
On arrival for vaccination at the university clinic, staff members and students were required to present a national identity card or voting slip from the Electoral Commission or a copy of parents’ national IDs while internationals are obliged to present a passport or national identity card from their country of origin.
The vaccination exercise at the private university is intended to ensure that all university students and staff are vaccinated as per the presidential and Ministry of Health Covid-19 prevention directives and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Last week, First Lady and Education Minister Janet K. Museveni appealed to principals of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and other institutions of higher learning, which were allowed to reopen in November, to ensure that they don’t relax on enforcing the Covid-19 guidelines.
According to Education and Sports Minister, Janet Museveni, Covid-19 is still a threat and could spread further if precautions are ignored.
KIU Guild Speaker, RT. HON. Mbabazi Angella noted that Covid-19 vaccination is the only way to go, thus every student should embrace the timely exercise for purposes of safe guarding their lives and those of their dear ones.
“As the old saying goes that prevention is better than cure, let’s take on the path to embrace the vaccination drive to avoid the music that may result from non-adherence to the scientifically backed approach to tackling this pandemic,” she noted.
It should be noted that free vaccination opportunities might be scarce or no more starting January 2022.
