It was a sombre Sunday evening at Kampala International University (KIU), Kansanga campus as students convereged to pray for the souls of the departed seven students who perished in a road accident on Saturday night.
Jimmy Risha one of the survivors, moved the congregations to tears when he showed up to speak. Jimmy limped to the podium with help from a colleague.
“The driver was rushing, I can not recall the moments, I only thank God I am still alive,” he said amidst a thunderous handclap and tears at the same time.
He then revealed that he saw one of their colleagues (Emmanuel Shema) die. “He (Shema) was totally in critical condition, I was next to him but he died while nurses rushed to bring more equipment to help him,” he added.
Police speaks out
Asp Kangave Paul, a statement said; “The taxi UAZ 179T that the students were traveling in rammed into an Isuzu UAK 812L that was parked on the road side, the other taxi involved actually knocked the taxi they where in after it staggered in the middle if the road, and no one was I jured in that other taxi UAY 766Z. Five died on spot, one Shema Emmanuel died on the way to Nsambya hospital, after being referred by St. Francis Kakooge where we had rushed them.”
The deceased who died on spot are: Mutabazi Fred Ngalambi Frank Makwenjere Samson Kassasira Fred Kwizera Vincent.
