In a press conference held yesterday, the Kampala International University Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of academic affairs, Dr. Annet Kezaabu Kasimbazi officially unveiled the University’s health camp set to kick off today 7th September at the Kansanga based main campus. This camp is part of ‘KIU Cares’ campaign.
With massive partnership from Health Advocacy Group (HAG), KIU is offering free medical services to its students and the whole Kansanga community in a three day camp dubbed ‘Health Camp 2017’. Some of the services to be offered in this health camp include voluntary HIV testing, cancer screening, blood donation, Hepatitis testing and Vaccination, family planning services among others. The theme of this camp is “Involving youth for quality health care”.
According to Dr Kezaabu, the objective of this camp is to give their students a preventative health care where they can access health services right from the campus premises. “We could also have told our students to go to hospitals somewhere, but we felt that bringing it here at KIU can jump start something like someone who has not been going for checkups to start today,” Dr. Kezaabu revealed yesterday.
KIU’s Professor George Nasinyana who also graced the press conference noted that KIU is the first Ugandan University to hold a health camp which will bring free health services to the community.”So the focus of this camp is the youth because we believe they make the highest population of this community” Nasinyana added.
While wrapping up the presser, Health Advocacy Group’s Representative James Odeke applauded KIU’s services and revealed that it is their first engagement with a higher institution of learning.
