This year, in a bid to keep a close relationship with students, parents and everyone in the country, Kampala International University [KIU] started a series of Monthly Media meetings where through the media, the University [Vice Chancellor] updates the public on activities being run by the University.
In February series, Dr. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo the Vice Chancellor of KIU was addressing the issue of youth unemployment where he posed the question, “What do we do for the thousands of graduates, skilled, qualified, yet jobless?”
Speaking to the media, the message being pushed was that youth should diversify their skill sets through endeavors like training programs, quality internships, volunteer opportunities, workshops and whatnot.
“Above all, volunteering makes it even easier for one to enter the workforce,” Dr, Mouhamad Mpezamihigo advised, “through volunteering, the youth are able to develop their skills and make contacts that enable them to widen their career networks,” he added.
The University looks to grant over 4000 bursaries this year. In a bid to combat youth unemployment, the University is rolling out the KIU Institute of Technical and Vocational Education, empowering students with career development programs, and launching a compulsory entrepreneurship program for all their students.
