Most of the dominating political parties at Makerere University have come together against the ruling government’s plan to remove the presidential age limit. These parties demonstrated Tuesday afternoon at freedom square in a massive arrangement dubbed ‘Makerere Inter-Party General Assembly’.
Headed by Ronald Ainebyona, Makerere political parties including UYD, FDC, NRM, UPC came together to discuss the way forward pertaining the presidential age limit removal. The party representatives got an opportunity to motivate Makerere Students to join Thursday’s demonstration to parliament as they take their petition challenging this planned move.
A book titled ‘The bloody impact of Lifting the presidential age limit’ has already been published to ease their struggle.
One of the memorable moments at this iwas when the Makerere NRM leader was granted an opportunity to speak, but his view on age limit contradicts with most of the NRM party members.
The yet to be identified student revealed that he is tired of seeing Museveni as president, despite him being part of the NRM.
There was heavy police deployment at freedom square to curb any violent activity. This tight security forced majority of Makerere students to distance themselves from this demonstration as a number of them were spotted watching from a far distance away from the freedom square.
