Kyambogo University administration is in the final stages of increasing the living out allowances for the government sponsored students, according to a new communique it released yesterday.
The increment follows threats from students to petition the administrators over what they term as minute living out allowances on top of over delaying them. In a letter from the office of the acting Dean of Students dated October 19, 2016, it states that the management of KYU received a request from the leaders of the government sponsored to students to increase their living out allowances which the management deemed necessary. However, the letter adds that this will take a little while since the University Council has to approve it. It should be noted that the government students had already started mobilizing to hold a massive demonstration claiming this money shouldn’t be released without being reviewed. According to Hillary Asiku a second year government sponsored student, their fellows in campuses like Makerere are getting over 700k yet in Kyambogo they are receiving a total of Shs 480,000, which is too little considering the cost of living. However, there are some few students who aren’t supporting the changes and these students seem satisfied with the allowances that are currently given. Campusbee is on ground and will keep you posted on how this story will end. |
