Paul Opesen, a former Kyambogo Guild Presidential aspirant has petitioned the Kyambogo Electoral Commission against FDC’s Amanya German win in the recently concluded guild elections.
According to a letter dated 10th March 2018 from the office of the university secretary legal unit, signed and stamped by Mukwatiriri Sam an advocate and chairperson elections petitions tribunal, Opesen Paul, the petitioner and former guild presidential candidate, is dissatisfied with the recently concluded guild elections that were held on the 7th March 2018. The petitioner therefore seeks to contest and challenge the entire electoral process.
It’s on this note that the elections petition tribunal has set Tuesday 13th March 2018, 9:00 am as the hearing date. This election petition number 001/2018 (OPESEN PAUL-VS-KYU GUILD ELECTORAL COMMISION) will be heard by the tribunal in the presence of the petitioner ( Opesen Paul), the Electoral Commission chairperson Asimwe Robert and the Dean of Students in the university boardroom at the Faculty of Science.
About the elections
Last week, Amanya German, FDC flag bearer emerged winner of the Kyambogo university guild elections after garnering a total of 3,701 votes followed by Opesen Paul of DP who garnered a total of 2,137 votes bringing about difference of 1564 votes.
