For some time now, students of Kyambogo University have been asking questions about why the current guild president Mbaziira John from the NUP party endorsed Ssekanjako Masudi for Guild President and not Mandwa Elijah who is the NUP flag bearer.
It is to be remembered that Masudi is the current Guild Minister of Projects. He is one of Mbaziira’s friends among the guild ministers who stood with him when there were misunderstandings among the guild ministers.
On the other hand, Mbaziira only heard of Mandwa Elijah when he aspired to be the Guild President on the NUP flag. According to Mandwa Elijah, the reason as to why Mbaziira John did not endorse him for guild presidency was because people think it’s like a kingship where guild presidency is inherited by close friends to the guild president.
Just like Tundulu Jonathan chose Mbaziira John and therefore Mbaziira chooses to side with Masudi, whose plans to aspire for Guild presidency were known to Mbaziira. Mandwa Elijah says that however this is not a kingship.
Mandwa still managed to win NUP primaries and be declared as the flag bearer even when he didn’t have Mbaziira’s support. It’s surprising that Masudi seems to have a large crowd behind his back even when he claims he is just from People Power and not from the NUP party to be exact.
Information has been spread far and wide to alert people that the real NUP flag bearer is not Masudi but Mandwa Elijah but the so much confusion caused by the division still has very many people amiss.
Kyambogo University Guild elections are due on Wednesday, 9th March 2022.
