Kayanga Baroda Watongola, final year student of Community Based Rehabilitation at Kyambogo University, was overwhelmingly voted for and elected to replace her fallen mother in Kamuli Municipality MP race.

Kayanga, the daughter of the deceased Kamuli Municipality Member of Parliament Rehema Watongola who finished her end of semester examinations and is awaiting internship to graduate stood as an independent and used the Chair as her symbol.

“Kamuli voters have demanded that a candidate from the family be presented to them to stand in Watongola’s place  and we could not turn down the demands of the voters, hence the decision to bless Kayanga,’’ Hajji Badru Watongola the MP Elect’s father in November 2020 explained.

Kayanga who was her mother’s political assistant, promised to follow Watongola’s legacy in the 11th Parliament.

“I was working alongside mother and would not sit back as her legacy is watered down by self-seekers who lack a proper development agenda for this new municipality,” she promised.

Hon Rehema Watongola succumbed to Covid-19 on November 14th at Mulago National Referral Hospital.
