Kyambogo University has dismissed Dr. Lawrence Eron, the former Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, following allegations of defiling a 16-year-old visually impaired girl.
The 56-year-old was remanded to Luzira Prison last month by the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of aggravated defilement.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Eli Katunguka announced the dismissal at a press conference, revealing that the decision was made during the 196th meeting of the Appointments Board Disciplinary Committee on July 24.
According to the VC, the committee found sufficient evidence of misconduct against Dr. Eron based on three counts, including damaging the university’s image, willful insubordination, and absconding from duty.
The disciplinary process began in May after Dr. Eron went missing in April following the establishment of a probe committee. Despite attempts to contact him, he failed to appear before the board, leading to an ex-parte decision.
Prof. Katunguka also emphasized that Dr. Eron will not be reinstated, even if he serves his sentence.
It is alleged that Dr. Eron engaged in a sexual act with the victim in October 2023 while coordinating the “All We See is Possibility” project.
After initially cooperating with the investigation, Dr. Eron absconded when his HIV-positive status was revealed but was later re-arrested and charged.
