Yesterday the Guild Representative Councillors (GRCs) of Kyambogo University were tasked to ballot for or against the E-voting that most students had termed as a “menace” that was coming to cause more trouble rather than being a solution to the students woes.
This system was presented to the GRC house a few weeks ago in a bid to sensitize them on its prominence and this act was meant to kick start the students sensitization process, and also the GRCs were expected to help spread the gospel of the new innovation that had come to uplift the voting process at the campus.
However, on the contrary, events didn’t turn out as expected as students leaders who had tasted the bitter part of the system plus the few angry students who even knew nothing about how the system operates waged war against the development.
Sensitization proceeded until yesterday when a few of the students led by Fahad Bahati, the ex-guild presidential aspirant, stormed the students center to hold a press conference and later peacefully marched to one of the sensitization points to wholesomely express discontent with the idea, intimidating that he and his followers will cause havoc if E-voting system will be used.
This attracted attention from the administration and gave the GRCs another ground on which they yesterday afternoon voted against the system, claiming it needed more time to enable students understand it better.
However, on contacting the dean of students Mr David Kassuti he told Campus Bee that the sensitization will proceed, because they intend yo capture every students opinion before a final verge is reached.
“We are still sensitizing to capture most of the students ratings of the system; until then, we cannot decide on what to do next,” he confirmed.
