The Kyambogo University Guild Government under the stewardship of Tundulu Jonathan is not about to run out of drama. Well, two cabinet ministers have been recommended for dismissal by Mbaziira John, the Chairperson of the Guild Ministerial Vetting Committee.
These Ministers include Monerach Polycap, the Guild Minister for Social On and Off Campus Affairs and Biyinzika Miriam Rose, the Guild Minister for Health and Environmental Affairs. In a letter authored to the Guild President, Mbazira claims that the two individuals do not possess the requirements to represent students in the Guild Council as stipulated in Article 1 and 5 of the Guild Constitution.
Biyinzika Miriam Rose has been recommended for dismissal on the basis of Article 5 (a) (ii) which denies membership of the Students’ Guild to students who are members of the University Staff. Monerach Polycap is alleged to have been appointed to the position regardless of not being a student of Kyambogo University.
However, Most Guild Representative Councillors (GRCs) and students in general are dissatisfied with the recommendations of the vetting committee claiming that it is an illegal body whose establishment is not stipulated anywhere in the laws of the University.
“It is clear that this committee is fraudulent and unprofessional. How come they failed to affirm the eligibility of these two Ministers the first time they were vetted into their respective positions? This is even an illegal Committee in the University that needs to be summoned and punished,” an angered GRC told Campus Bee.
It should be noted that Monerach Polycap has been praised by the students’ fraternity for organizing one of the most successful bazaars in Kyambogo University. Tundulu’s response and actions towards these recommendations by an illegal Vetting Commiittee will be a true test of his resilience as any miscalculation may be the beginning of the end of his presumably fruitful era.
