Last Friday while addressing the university administration and the freshmen at the freshers induction that took place at the Westend Square, Ochieng Joseph the Kyambogo guild president gave a speech that left masses overwhelmed and excited.
In his speech, he hinted on the now trending social campaign of “Togikwaatako ” where he agreed that he had been silent while others were making noise and being violent and he said he was silent for a reason. He continued to clear the air and said that Kyambogo is not a university of hooligans and therefore there was no need of him mobilising or engaging in violent acts which would in turn have university property vandalised and students beating up and being injured in the scuffle that would arise between them and the police.
He further revealed that the inspector general of police Kale Kayihura personally called on his mobile phone and congratulated him for not engaging and inciting students to involve in the violent acts all in the name of “Togikwaatako” .
“I was personally called by the IGP Kale Kayihura on thursday evening, I don’t know where he got my number but he called me and congratulated me for not engaging in any violent acts as other universities did. I personally believe in dialogue to solve problems rather than using violence and I need you to know that Kyambogo is not a university of hooligans so we didn’t engage in all this because in the end we would have our own property vandalised and ourselves injured for nothing,” Ochieng said.
In his speech, he also delivered an inspirational message to the freshers where he encouraged them to stay focused because the journey they are starting is not for the faint hearted.
