After coming to the realization that concerted efforts are essential to solving private students’ grievances, Kidega Brian, the Kyambogo University Private Students’ Guild Representative Councilor (GRC) who doubles as the Guild Speaker of the Council launched Kyambogo University Private Sponsored Students Association (KYUPSSA) on August 28th in the presence of the Guild President Tundulu Jonathan and other students of the University at the Students’ Centre.
The key inspiration to the founding of KYUPSSA is the existence of Kyambogo University Government Students’ Association (KYUGOSA) that has been instrumental in fighting for the rights of Government students at Kyambogo University. The launch of the association started off with marching of all students in attendance around the University with a band to send a signal about the genesis of KYUPSSA. The Guild President, Speaker and GRCs joined in the march.
Later in the afternoon, a session was held where an executive body to spearhead the association was sworn in. Wafidi Brian, popularly known as Proud Gishu was sworn in as president of the association. Other prominent executive members who were sworn in include Mbazira John and Tumusiime Edrine.
In his remarks, H.E. Tundulu commended the efforts of the Kidega Brian for initiating and formulating this association. He encouraged the newly sworn in executives to work in the interest of the private students’ fraternity.
“H.E. Tundulu Jonathan is so far the most supportive Guild President that I’ve witnessed in Kyambogo University. It is partly because of his support that KYUPSSA is born today to fight for the rights of the Private students. I pray and believe it will be a success,” said Kidega.
