Retaking a course unit at University, while it may seem normal to some, is a night mare to many. Well, a lecturer of Legal Framework of Organisations, a course unit taken by students in the School of Management and Entrepreneurship at Kyambogo University might have caused many unexpected nightmares after issuing out over 270 retakes to her students.
It should be noted that this lecturer taught Legal Framework of Organisations to first year students in three programmes during the first semester of Academic Year 2018/2019. These programmes were Bachelor of Procurement and Logistics Management (Evening), Bachelor of Accounting and Finance (Day) and Bachelor of Business Administration. However, all these students have come out with complaints that the lecturer is biased and failed almost the whole class.
“She came and started lecturing us in October, 2018 when time had even elapsed and we were nearing end of semester examinations. She made us do coursework and tests combined in one day and even refused continuing students from retaking in her class,” one of the coordinators of the affected classes claimed.
These retakes have caused distress among students with many claiming that the lecturer is simply biased.
“It is abnormal to fathom that a student can be given Zero (0) score in an examination and yet he/she passed coursework and tests highly. I cannot understand the intention behind all this,” a student cried
Student leaders of the faculty had a session with the coordinators and compared mark sheets, coming to the realization that over 270 students have been requested to retake the course unit by the lecturer.
Apparently, efforts are being made to reach the Faculty administration over the issue but all seems to be in vain.
