Kyambogo University has today, 15th January, 2025 unveiled the next phase of its ambitious student housing project.
In a meeting with a pre-qualified bidder under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, striking artistic impressions of modern high-rise apartment blocks were showcased.
The project promises to transform student living conditions at Uganda’s second-largest public university, where thousands of students currently grapple with housing challenges
According to a student housing expert, less than 10% of Kyambogo’s over 30,000 students can currently access on-campus accommodation.
Many students face the daily struggle of commuting long distances or paying premium prices for often substandard private hostels and rentals in surrounding areas.
The proposed apartment complex features modern amenities, secure access, and green spaces – a far cry from the current situation where students often share cramped rooms in private hostels or rent in distant neighborhoods, sometimes compromising their safety and academic performance.
The project’s progress will be watched closely by stakeholders in higher education, especially completion time owing to associated delays.
