Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor Prof. Eli Katunguka has issued a stern warning in response to the ongoing unrest at the university.
The unrest, which has seen several confrontations between police and students, comes in the midst of guild elections that have drawn significant political attention.
According to Prof. Katunguka, various political players are allegedly sponsoring students to incite instability and disrupt the university’s normal operations.
The tensions escalated this week, leading to violent clashes between students and the police, who were called in to manage the situation.
Teargas and pepper spray were used to disperse student demonstrators on multiple occasions, drawing widespread public attention and media coverage.
Prof. Katunguka highlighted the disruptive behavior of some students who, allegedly sponsored by external forces, have been involved in beating their colleagues and chasing them out of class.
He made it clear that the university would not tolerate such actions and that anyone found disturbing the peace would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
“Stand warned,” Prof. Katunguka emphasized, assuring the public that the university is taking the necessary steps to restore order and ensure a peaceful learning environment.
