A good number of Kyambogo university students were earlier this week stopped from sitting for their end of semester exams because of tuition fees arrears. The school administrators accuse students of betting their tuition fees instead of clearing with the university bursar.
The 1st deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, Prof. Eli Katunguka Rwakishaya, said in an exclusive interview with Chimpreports, that despite the fact that the university had neared the examination period, they could not allow students to sit for the exams before clearing tuition.
“We know that some students used their tuition for sports betting but others had genuine reasons for not paying in time. That is why we reopened their e-campuses, so that they can sit for their exams.”
He added: “Being a parent, I felt for my fellow parents out there who hassle to get money. So, I didn’t want to see anyone wasting all the years they have spent at the university because of a one term default.”
However, he continued, this doesn’t mean that “we are going to operate this way”, students should pay their tuition on time.
Exams kicked off yesterday but the administration maintains that by the end of week, all students should have paid their tuition before the closure of the of the semester.
