Over 30 students of Banda-based Kyambogo University were arrested by Police on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, for being in possession of and abusing cocaine.
This was after the security operatives were tipped off by locals when the said students went high on the substance and started making uncordinated and unnecessary noises plunged with abuses.
They were first stationed at Jinja road police station from where they were brought before the Nakawa court and remanded to Luzira prison.
Locals said it was not the first time the students were abusing the substance but this time the noise was alarming and extreme which made them tip off the police.
The arrested students however were denying all the charges brought against them and claim they were innocently detained.
“We have missed exams. We may be discontinued or this situation may prolong our graduation from the university yet some of us were not among those that were smoking weed,” cried Samuel Emron an accounting student at the university.
Among the arrested are Samuel Emron, Charles Onen of Business Administration and Christopher Ssemakula.
