Kyambogo university is set to blaze in a set of demonstrations during the first two weeks of next Semester. The students are being spearheaded by their GRCs who through WhatsApp groups are mobilizing them to stand against the academic back log where their academic year 2015/2016 first Semester results are not any close to being released.
The faculty of Arts, Social Sciences, Education, Special Needs and the School of Management and Entrepreneurship(SOME) are the most affected. The GRC of SOME Paul Okuni who also serves as the Minister of Justice and constitutional affairs has for the past Semester tried Lobbying for results right from department levels but all he gained was getting tossed around like a volley ball.
The School of Management and entrepreneurship is to spearhead the demonstration being the “WHY US?” Faculty which is affected by most of the academic back lags at the institution.
The grievances include
-: releasing results late for example currently, a new academic year is ushering in yet results for the past’s first semester are not out yet!
-: The flexing for lecture rooms and furniture has overstayed its welcome too becoming a hurdle in the academic life of Kyambogo students.
-: Failure to allocate internship allowances to government students in time. The faculty allowances that are given on time also come with a double-edged effect where they are not only cartoon sized (small) but highly charged by the banks too. In the end of it all, the students get the mosquito share which isn’t helpful to them.
With these conditions, the Dean of Students has for the past semester not played it cool with the GRCs to find a way out of this dark academic tunnel. The GRCs have thus devised this move as a reality check to the Kyambogo Administration to respond to provide solutions to these problems.
So freshers and the rest of the continuing students come prepared to join this struggle. Be Rest assured of Legal Back up…The Minister of Justice and Constitutional affairs say so.
