The National Resistance Movement (NRM)- Kyambogo University chapter held its first successful public lecture on Friday, November 02 at the CTF Auditorium building with over 1000 students in attendence.
Among the invited guests were Political Analyst and Presidential advisor Tamale Mirundi, Former EALA speaker Daniel Fred Kidega, NRM party Secretary General Justine Lumumba and Government Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo.
However, Ofwono Opondo and Justine Lumumba did not turn up for the event leaving Tamale and Kidega to dominate the lecture.
Kidega who spoke before Tamale hinted on the need for transparency, accountability, and nationalism among the youth. He advised students to use their time at University effectively as it would determine their destiny outside school.
“There is nothing that impresses me more than talking to the young generation. We the NRM are here to shop for the best minds. We are here to bring you the ideology of the party,” said Kidega
However, chants of the ‘People power’ slogan could still be heard amongst the students whenever Kidega tried to drive the point home
At about 5:30 PM, Tamale Mirundi was called to address the students amidst cheers and excitement. Numbers in the Auditorium magically increased as some were spotted struggling at the door to have a glimpse at the ‘ngalaabi’ man.
Those who had only watched him on NBS Television finally got the chance to physically see and interact with him.
However, Tamale did not speak for long and only responded to questions from the audience
At the end of the engagement, multitudes of students followed the political gimmick to his car requesting for selfies and autographs from him.
Infact, to the amazement of the organizers of the public lecture almost all the students walked out of the auditorium with Tamale the moment he finished making his submission.
The event that was scheduled to take a little longer had to be cut short and ended because there was no one left to attend it after Tamale’s departure.
