Students pursuing a Bachelor of Community Development and Social Justice in the Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation (Year 3) at Kyambogo University have gone on protest today and forcefully dismissed a lecturer due to reluctance of the Faculty administration in addressing pertinent issues relating to inadequacy of lecture room space.
It should be noted that these students have persistently complained about missing lectures ever since the commencement of the new semester. This is something that has been caused by poor room allocation, whereby classes with big numbers of students have been allocated small rooms, something that has not gone well with them.
This morning, immediately the lecturer entered class, there was a realization that most students didn’t have sitting space and they decided that enough was enough. These students invaded the office of the Dean of Faculty requesting for a review of the timetable. Unsurprisingly, the Dean of Students told them to ‘Go and Cry’, something that infuriated them to go back to class, forcefully evict the lecturer and declare a ‘No lecture day’ for the whole faculty until their issues are addressed.
Later on, the students were heard chanting the popular strike slogan WeWe and running around in rounds in demand for reforms, lest they’ll continue to throw out all lecturers that surface.
