There was a stampede at Kyambogo University’s Good Shepherd Hostel on Friday when students descended on a suspected thief and beat him to pulp.
The raging students that used all kinds of torture equipment like big stones and sticks, alleged the victim for all the stolen property ranging from laptops and mobile phones to money.
The suspect was brought into the students’ fists by Boda Boda men around the area that had mounted a chase on him, alleging he was responsible for their colleagues’ stolen motorcycles and spare parts.
“This should serve as a lesson to the thieves. We are tired of losing property and shall do all it takes to wipe out any one suspected of theft,” a peeved student told this reporter.
Suprisingly though, even the Police watched on as the suspect was being manhandled and only came in to prevent his murder.
One of the Policemen was overheard telling the mob that they’ve been given a chance to discipline the thief and they should do it fast.
They, however, stopped the ‘party’ just close enough to prevent a murder.
“I dont think he will survive. One guy threw a huge stone on his chest, it will be a miracle if he survives much as he was taken to the hospital,” Allan Twine, a student at Good Shephered Hostel said.
The suspect was later taken away to the hospital by a Police pick up truck amidst ululations by the students and the Boda Boda community for a ‘job well executed’.
