Kyambogo University will next week graduate at least 7,000, 294 of these will be awarded first class honours degrees in their different fields of study according to a tentative graduation list released yesterday. Of these students, 3,280 are males while 3,126 are females.
The students will be awarded with degrees, diplomas and certificates from December 14 to 16, 2016 during the institution’s 13th graduation ceremony that will be held at the Campus in Banda.
According to the list, 220 students will graduate with first-class honours and 74 with distinctions. Of these, diploma in Accounting and Finance programmes have the highest number of first-class students at 15. It is followed by Bachelor of Micro finance while Bachelor of Economics and Statistics and Bachelor of Arts with Education have eight students each. The rest of the first class students are scattered all over in other faculties and courses.
In a letter signed by the academic registrar on October 3, 2016, Rose G. Bwire, it’s indicated that only students who have successfully completed their academic programmes, financially verified and vetted, will be allowed to graduate.
“Go to the bursar’s office to complete the verification exercise and to your respective faculties/schools and confirm the spelling of your name,” reads the letter.
It adds that verification is ongoing and all graduands should have been financially verified by December 9, 2016.
Vice chancellor, Prof. Elly Katunguka told Campus Bee yesterday that the decision to hold the graduation in December followed a senate meeting and consultation with students and parents
“We received feedback from parents and students asking us to have the graduation in December, because most parents spend a lot of money during festive season, and by January, they do not have money,” he said.
The function will be presided over by the chancellor, Dr. John Ssebuwufu and the Education minister Janet Museveni will be the chief guest.
Katunguka also revealed that in terms of infrastructure, the university received $28m from the African Development Bank under the High Education Science and Technology (HEST) project to set up different structures and now, most of them are at 50 per cent completion.
The tentative list for the 13th graduation is available on the University website and Campus Bee will bring more details and the full graduation list soon.
