Kyambogo University electoral commission has disqualified at least three candidates from the ongoing guild polls over forging documents to support their nomination.
The disqualified candidates are; Bwete Tonney (independent), Suubi Isaac (independent) and NUP leaning candidate Akiso Benjamin.
Sembatya Axam, chairman to the commission, withdrew the nomination of the three in a communication to the students dated October 14, 2024.
“I therefore under standards of Article 17 clause 3a(vi) withdraw the nomination of candidates; Suubi Isaac, Bwete Tonney and Akiso Benjamin for Guild presidency since their nominations were backed by forgery in order to support their candidature,” the letter reads in part.
The trio’s disqualification follows a petition by a one Hillary Mangeni Boro who challenged the nomination of the trio citing forgery.
Kyambogo University students will go to the polls on Thursday October 17, 2024 to elect the 21st students guild government.
The winner of the Thursday polls will succeed DP’s Reagan Mwebasa who has been the head of the 20th government.
