Kyambogo University has officially adjusted its academic calendar for Semester Two of the 2025/2026 academic year, pushing the reopening date to Tuesday, February 10, 2026, in line with government directives issued ahead of the general elections.
In a circular dated January 20, 2026, the Office of the Vice Chancellor informed staff and students that the revision follows guidance from the Ministry of Education and Sports, which ordered the reopening of all schools and education institutions to be postponed to ensure the safety of learners during the election period.
The semester had initially been scheduled to begin on January 24, 2026, but university management said compliance with the ministry’s directive necessitated the adjustment.
According to the revised calendar, resident students will report on February 10, with teaching and learning running from February 11 to May 31, 2026, covering a period of 15 weeks. Semester Two examinations will be conducted between June 4 and June 18, after which the semester will officially end on June 18, 2026.
Marking of examinations will take place from June 19 to July 2, while school practice, college practice, and industrial training—where applicable—will run from July 3 to September 10, 2026, lasting 10 weeks.
University authorities have urged faculty deans, heads of departments, and academic units to work collaboratively to ensure adequate preparation for teaching and learning under the revised schedule.
The notice, signed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Eli Katunguka–Rwakishaya, emphasizes that the adjustments are aimed at maintaining academic continuity while safeguarding students and staff during a sensitive national period.
Kyambogo University joins several other higher institutions that have revised their academic calendars following the government’s decision to delay the reopening of schools due to the 2026 general elections.
