The Vice Chancellor of Kyambogo University Prof. Eli Katunguka has complained about people who pose as students to attend lectures and classes at the Banda-based campus.
While addressing the press on Friday last week, Prof. Eli Katunguka said that students from elsewhere and other people who are not students at the university are attending classes to acquire education at a free cost.
These people, in addition to not paying a single penny for the services, suffocate the already limited space and inadequate furniture in small lecture rooms.
“The lecturers teach more students than those who sit examinations,” the VC was quoted during his address. “We must know who the real students are especially through ICT.”
It is rather common for these people posing as students to attend lectures especially among classes that have very many students.
It is quite difficult for a student to know each and every one of his classmates especially if there are so many of them.
Sometimes students from large faculties like the School of Management and Entrepreneurship inquired about the everyday new faces attending their classes.
“Perhaps they are retakers who have not been attending lectures or maybe we share this course unit with their programme.”
The above are the kind of answers given every time a different person is identified.
John Okuonzi, the director of ICT explained that the security personnel at the various gates will be given gadgets in form of tablets which they will use to identify the students before they are allowed into the campus.
This will be easier, provided that each student will be required to spell out their registration numbers or show their student identity cards at the gate.
