Kyambogo University Council; the highest governing body has ordered a fresh Vice Chancellor search after rejecting Senate’s Recommendation of of acting Vice Chancellor Eli Katunguka as the best suited candidate ahead of MUBS Prof. George Bakunda. Katunguka scored 76% compared to Bakunda’s 66%.
Pro. John Okedi Council Chairman defends the resolution of Council citing non adherence to provisions of Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act which requires 3 candidates and not two.
“The report submitted by senate to Council was in short defective. This warrants re-advertisement of the job.” Prof. Ekedi stated on Thursday.
A Vice Chancellor is the highest individual administrator. The process of selecting a Kyambogo VC was marred with irregularities that resulted in the walking out of Prof. JB Oketch from the faculty of Special Needs and Charles Mukooza, the Administrative staff representative to the Senate. The walk out was in reaction to the objection of their pleas by the selection chairperson.
