Kyambogo University administration has resolved on a petition by the students and staff that was pending and has now embarked on installing a wireless internet connection to expedite students’ research projects and administration issues.
Kyambogo University has for the past years had issues with student payment and the systems showcasing corresponding data on paper. Issues such as students paying money but payment not reflected in the system was a stress factor to the administration and the students who often raised complaints.
However, with the wireless internet connection, Prof Eli Katunguka Rwakisaaya the acting vice chancellor Kyambogo University affirms that such mishaps will not be happening anymore. He also stresses that Students’ tuition will quickly be reflected on the system once they pay up and they can access the details at any time.
The VC made these remarks during the launch of the free wireless internet on Wednesday at Kyambogo University premises.
Prof. Eli Katunguka pointed out that every system is affected with breakdowns but affirms that the university will install a backup system to ensure break downs in system is handled and they can still retrieve students and university documents.
About sh 1 billion was spent to have the internet system upgraded which is a requirement from National Council of Higher Education that all universities upgrade their systems every three years.
The wireless internet connection which is absolutely free and accessible to all is expected to enhance teaching and research among students anywhere around the university. Lecturers now have the honour to reduce on the number of teaching hours so as to give students time to do individual research and reading.
The executive director National Information Technology Authority-Uganda Vivian Damba believes that this innovation will enrich students with information since they now have efficient reliable data connection at the university.
