The developing story at Kyambogo University right now is about the aggrieved government sponsored students who are plotting to petition against the meager and delayed allowances that take ages to reach them.
Speaking to Odokonyero Robert, the president of the Kyambogo University Government Sponsored Students Association (KYUGSSA), the formally written request, he says, calls for judicial action against the low allowances. He went ahead to highlight that a non resident government sponsored student of Kyambogo university receives shs448,000 per semester which is very low compared to that of a Makerere university government non resident student who receives shs720,000 per semester.
“On top of that even these meager funds require some sort of tedious bureaucratic process to get. Up to now some students like those belonging to North Hall haven’t received their allowances as per last semester,” Odokonyero told Campusbee.
He called for immediate action from the responsible authorities as he planned to hand in a letter of grievances which will be followed by the action of petitioning in case the issues have not been addressed.
