Kyambogo University students always thought that sitting for final examinations and passing highly without a retake was the ticket to the graduation tent before experiencing what hardships one must go through to get clearance at all offices.

The most tedious stage during this process is at the bursar’s as well as what it surely takes to finally acquire a graduation gown.

Kyambogo University graduands who sat for their final examinations in March this year have not only been very patient but also enduring all the hardships they have encountered.

With graduation having been pushed from September to December, one could have thought that the clearance process would be simpler because of the ample time saved.

Clearance with the bursar’s office is the most difficult part, according to the prospective graduands.

There are always long queues at the bursar’s window and sometimes after coming so early in the morning, some go back home more devastated without being worked on to the finish and have to plan for another whole day at the same window.

Memes about how hard it is to finally get a go-ahead from the bursar’s office have been generated.

The Vice Chancellor, through a letter addressed to graduands on 14th November 2022, informed them that in addition to the graduation fees, they will have to purchase their own gowns for the graduation ceremony as the university has not been able to provide customized graduation gowns in time for the upcoming graduation.

As the letter reads, the graduands are therefore at liberty to buy their respective graduation gowns from the open market as has been the practice.

That explains why graduation gowns of the different faculties are being sold everywhere in and around Banda, even in the places one least expects them to be sold.

The guild internet cafe, apart from offering internet services, printing and photocoping, has also ventured into the sale of these gowns.

They are also being stocked in every shop in Banda, and small tents storing the gowns are along the streets in Banda.

Whether the shop deals in groceries or salon, you will definitely get yourself a gown from there.

Graduands who have fully cleared and bought gowns, as a sign of victory, now move along the streets playing celebratory music on their phones.

It is indeed beautiful and relieving that after such milestones, one can finally see themselves in the graduation tent.

Congratulations!
