Kyambogo University Guild Representative Councilors have today petitioned the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eli Katunguka over anormalies in the central registration process and the students portal system.
These included Hon Mandwa Elijah (GRC for School of Management), Hon. Nkurunziza Alphonse (GRC Faculty of Engineering and Ex Dep. Prime Minister), Hon. Kamya Carlos (GRC for School of Management and EX. Minister for Ethics and Integrity)
The petition was raised after a number of students experienced challenges in the their portals reflecting incomplete data.
“Consultations with various students continue to indicate a challenge of access to the portal system where as majority first years are experiencing a challenge of incomplete data reflecting on the new portal system given the fact that the ACMIS student portal continues to reflect 0% percentage completion of tuition and functional fees payments even when these students have paid fees to 100% with a proof indicating payments,” the GRCs highlighted.
In some cases, the section of payments reflects 0% tuition and functional fees payment even when a student has completed to zero balance.
This however has majorly affected the first year students who are undergoing a central registration process in which majority of them have been bounced back by their respective registrars at the different faculties. The registrars argue that students can not be registered when their portals have not reflected full payment of tuition and functional fees.
First years are more vulnerable to the situation since their examinations are slated to commence on 29th November 2021 yet majority of them have not been registered and are likely to miss out with examinations if the challenges are not addressed.
The students leaders recommend that the ICT department of the university should be directed to address the challenge of the portal system failing to reflect 100% tuition payment before the beginning of examinations or the university issue out clear guidelines as to how examinations will be handled without victimising any student facing the challenge of portal system and central registration.
